For years, Saints fans have grown tired of watching their side being torn asunder as new managers and projects begin. Despite being very well-run at the top of the club, Southampton have spent a lot of time beginning new projects time and time again; with limited success. The club reached the League Cup final last year, only to lose late on to Manchester United.
Other than that, though, they’ve struggled to maintain the huge momentum found under Mauricio Pochettino and then Ronald Koeman early on.
Now, though, it looks like they fancy a bit of ambitious signings themselves. They are being linked with Spanish hotshot Paco Alcacer, of Barcelona. The former Valencia star has struggled greatly at Barcelona, but he was a Spanish international at Valencia; a top striker with a fantastic hit-rate. Not being able to settle in at Barcelona is no shame, and he would make a fine signing for most clubs in the top tier leagues.
With just five goals so far in the league, Saints need to find more firepower and the 24-year-old is seemingly desperate to get his career back on track. Having seen how Italian forward Manolo Gabbiadini started last year, it’s hoped that a move for another forward can have a similar positive effect on the club.
The Italian may have run out of form entirely, but a new striker to play in and off might be just what he needs to get himself back on track once again. A new forward is top of the wish list, and with 8 in 30 despite his struggled in Barcelona, Alcacer would make major sense.
He’s got an eye for goal and, if Saints can convince him to make the move – even temporarily – this would be a very positive move for a club that has felt on a downward trajectory for some time. Alcacer had many suitors prior to his move to Barcelona; this could help both club and player to revive their positivity.
