Enjoying a resurgence to the top of the European game at the moment, Ajax are impressing everyone who watches them with their engaging, enterprising football. Making waves at home and in Europe with some inspired performances, the European giants from Amsterdam look very much likely to win back their Eredivisie crown.
Such is their form, it’s been suggested that Manchester City would make mid-season moves for starlets Matthias De Ligt and Frenkie de Jong. With two of the homegrown stars of the team making huge impressions so far, there were suggestions that Ajax might need to cash in sooner rather than later.
However, Marc Overmars, the Ajax Sporting Director, was unequivocal when asked saying: “I think everyone knows our stance,
“That is not to make sales in the winter. There’s no chance, no matter what amount anyone offers.”
For Ajax fans, that will be good news. For City fans, it means having to compete with the rest of Europe for two of the elite young talents in the game at present. The outstanding performance levels from de Jong and De Light can be hard to fathom given their age.
They look to be the latest sets of stars to come out of the Ajax academy. However, if City thought they could pick them up in January and beat the rest of the world to the punch, they will be disheartened at the feedback coming from Ajax – no mid-season sales whatsoever.
