As one of the most impressive goalkeepers in the world, it’s little surprise that David de Gea is often linked with a return to Spain. Now 27, and with a return to Spain via Real Madrid constantly spoken about, there’s been renewed talk that the Spain number one heads back to his hometown.
However, according to Jose Mourinho in the Manchester Evening News, this is not going to happen. The Spaniard has been a key part of Mourinho’ United team, and will look to continue to play a key role for seasons to come, if the Portuguese is to be believed.
When asked about his opinion about de Gea heading off to Madrid, Mourinho was unequivocal, simply saying: “No chance,”
With Kaylor Navas failing to keep his reputation intact with a howler against Bayern Munich, though, it appears that Madrid might fancy testing the Red Devil’ resolve. With Madrid seemingly desperate to move on from their Costa Rican experiment, it would appear that they’ll return in the summer for another bite at de Gea.
If Mourinho is to be believed, though, the chances of such a move coming off would be small.
