In what feels like an increasingly protracted transfer saga, it appears that Harry Maguire is all set to push for a move to Manchester United. The England and Leicester City defender has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the last two years, with his progress from a solid Premier League youngster to one of the most coveted defenders in the country now complete. All that has to happen now is for that flagship move – but will he get it?
Reports claim that the Foxes defender is growing somewhat exasperated about the club taking its time to lower his valuation. With the club seemingly only looking to sell for a world-record fee for a defender, Maguire is worried that he might miss out on his chance to move to Old Trafford.
In doing so, he would get the chance to emulate his heroes in Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. So set on the move is Maguire, apparently, that he wants to eventually pick up the armband and become captain of the club.
Given their extensive central defensive numbers – though short in quality – United will need to shift some on. Closest to an exit is Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly, who has endured an up-and-down time in Manchester.
With Maguire seemingly set to move and push for the move, though, we could soon see a change in mood around the Leicester camp. Links with Lewis Dunk heading to Leicester for a fee in excess of £40m, too, points to the likelihood that a deal will be done before the end of the transfer window in early August.
