As ever with Chelsea Football Club, when one opportunity appears another also opens up for an exit. However, while the links to Alex Sandro would be welcome for the London outfit, the loss of their star goalkeeper would not whatsoever. With only 18 months left to run on his deal, though, seats are becoming uncomfortable for the Stamford Bridge directors.
Having already told the club he wants to leave contract talks until the summer – when he would have just around one year to run – it looks like an exit could be in the pipeline. Having once played for Atletico Madrid with some distinction, though, a move to Real Madrid which has been mooted sounds rather farfetched. That being said, another ex-Atletico keeper – David de Gea – was all-for moving to Madrid in the past.
Therefore, it would appear that, with his recent comments picked up in The London Evening Standard, the Belgian is only too happy to move on; even if it meant wearing the white of Madrid this time around.
“Everybody knows that due to my personal situation, Spain attracts me. If it is not now, it will be in some years,” he said.
Madrid are apparently unhappy with Keylor Navas and are looking for a major upgrade on the Costa Rican in the summer. With a likely transfer to come for their #1 at present – or a demotion – it would appear that both de Gea and the ever-keen Courtois take precedence.
