Having been a perpetual transfer target for just about everyone at the top table in recent years, it looks like it’s now Arsenal’ turn to be linked with want-away Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabonese forward has been a revelation for BVB, but just about every transfer widow has seen him agitate or be heavily linked with a move away.
Despite being insistent that England is not a destination he would entertain; Arsenal have been the club most heavily linked with the forward. Fitting into the Francophone nature of the Arsenal dressing room, he would be a smart addition to replace the outgoing Alexis Sanchez.
Arsene Wenger, though, poured cold water on the link. Quoted in the London Evening Standard, Wenger replied to a question asking whether or not Aubameyang was an option, saying: “No, that is not a possibility”.
Whether that means the player is not interested, the deal cannot be done or Wenger himself is not interested, we do not know. However, to have no interest in a forward who has scored close to the same amount of goals as Robert Lewandowski since he left Dortmund, it seems strange that there is no interest in a player who would seem a natural fit for Arsenal.
With 13 goals this season already in the league, Arsenal fans will be hoping that the denial is merely Wenger playing games and that there is some genuine truth to the links that ‘Auba’ could be en-route.
