Arsene Wenger

Arsenal to Spend Big?

Apparently, alongside his new two-year deal, Arsene Wenger has been handed a bombastic transfer kitty. Having earned a new deal with the club after winning the FA Cup, rumours are swirling that the nervous Arsenal board are making it clear that he needs to step it up on the transfer front if he wants to remain any longer. It’s likely that his transfer budget is going to be north of £100m, as the board try to keep an angered fan base onside.

Having also began contract negotiations with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil once again, too, it’s likely that Arsenal will get the chance to spend big on wages as well as fees. We expect that, with this being a surprising decision, that Wenger must have agreed to concessions regarding his frugal mind-set in the past.

Apparently, the Frenchman has been warned to stop messing around when it comes to signings. A talented and professional manager to the end, Wenger has also used that Economics degree to ensure that he puts huge consideration into each and every signing. This has led to an overly frugal approach in the past, where the Frenchman has avoided making major signings due to doubts about value – such as with Gonzalo Higuain in 2013.

The club are keen to ensure that he avoids being too frugal in the future, as they try and convince fans that this is the right move for all parties. With many still unsure that Wenger should have stayed, it’s going to be interesting to see how Arsenal try and get fans back onside.

Precious few links are appearing in the press regarding big names, so it will be interesting to see what starts to appear now that the confusion over who will be manager has been resolved. It’s going to be interesting to see, if such a large transfer kitty has been sanctioned, if Wenger will look to commit all of his resources towards finding success for the club or if he will remain too interested in trying to keep that cash surplus growing even more.

It’s for sure going to be an interesting time at The Emirates, that’s for sure!
