Having become infamous for their soft centred backline, Arsenal are being linked with a long range of centre-halves. The latest defender they are being linked with is the Freiburg central defender, Caglar Soyuncu.
A target for many of the top clubs in the Bundesliga, the £30m-rated defender is seen as the perfect choice for Arsenal. Powerful, relatively quick, decent on the ball and only 21 he fits well into the profile that new Head of Recruitment Sven Mislintat will want to take a look at.
Having already seen him with his former club Dortmund, Mislintat will be all too aware of the strengths of the defender. A powerful centre half with plenty of capacity in the air and a decent threat in the opposition box, he’s been relatively impressive in his time with Freiburg and has already become a key first team player for them.
An impressive ball player, too, he could be an interesting option for an Arsenal side that needs more power. He’s a very impressive ball player, who can play strong diagonal passes. With 45 appearances in 72 league games for Freiburg, he’s become a key player for a team that looks like it has reached his ceiling: a move now could be his best opportunity to establish himself in the Premier League.
As Arsenal look to be in the middle of a revolution, players such as Soyuncu would help to fill the gap in power and authority that’s plagued Arsenal for close to a decade.
