In the summer, the signing of Alvaro Morata by Chelsea was derided in some corners. Seen as a poor second to Romelu Lukaku, who has gone to Manchester United and made an instant impact, the Spaniard wasn’t seen as a first pick. Now, though, with 6 goals – 50% of the clubs’ goals in the league – to his name, he’s made an instant impact and made Chelsea fans forget all about Diego Costa.
With a goal in Europe, too, he’s making a huge impression on the Chelsea support and is likely to become a bit of a hero for the club. At just 24, too, he’s got even more room for improvement. Having spent much of his time pre-Chelsea either on loan at Juventus or playing as a sub for Madrid, this new change to Morata – and faith from a coach who clearly rates him – means that he is likely to see continual success in the months to come.
Before Premier League defenders get used to the player, he’s likely to be a good bet for the top scorer in the division. A hugely impressive forward with a great eye for goal, few are impressing more than Morata.
It’s now just his goals, though; his link-up is exceptional. With 2 assists so far, he’s already beginning to make a bit of an impact for all the right reasons when it comes to his overall playing style. For Chelsea fans, the wait for a proper Drogba replacement looks to be finished. Diego Costa was good but always felt like it was a short-term arrangement, and the speed in which Morata has settled in has been hugely impressive.
Already one of the top players in the league, he’s likely to show his worth even more as the season develops – watch this space.
