With rumours that want-away Arsenal and Chile star Alexis Sanchez was close to signing for Manchester City, the fact he’s still an Arsenal player is quite shocking. However, with the transfer dead – for now – it looks like Arsenal have a new problem on their hands: a player lacking motivation, who is now furious.
Reports claim that Arsenal have been informed that Sanchez does not want to play for the club again. His transfer was dependent on Arsenal completing a move for Thomas Lemar of Monaco, which never took place. Instead, the Chile international is left with a move in the air and nothing that can be done to help accelerate it until January.
Stuck with a team he’s lost all passion for and with a manager he appears to have no desire to play under, how can Arsenal hope to salve such a damaging situation?
An exit is now guaranteed. With the claims that all forms of reconciliation are now dead and Arsenal have found a way to infuriate their star forward, there’s not really a lot that can be done. They cannot afford to leave him out the squad, but if his performance at Anfield – in a 4-0 clubbing by Liverpool – is anything to go by, is he much use anyway?
Chaos awaits. Unable to convince the player to stick around or take part in the teams development, it’s a further indictment on the lack of harmony at Arsenal and their inability to build a platform that could lead to lasting success. With the transfer window ending in a profit, too, the lack of improvements to the squad – and the unfinished business of allowing Sanchez to leave before reneging – could see this season become a nightmare for Arsenal fans who just wanted stability.
